About The Area
Sarasota County has a lot to offer!
New to the area? Sarasota County has been ranked as one of the top destinations to visit, live, open a business and retire in America. Sarasota has a top-rated school system and perhaps the finest beaches in the world. It has long been known as the cultural capital of Florida and for good reason. Our museums, art galleries, and theatre groups provide diverse, cultural experiences. Downtown Sarasota and Main Street are lively with shopping, music, nightlife, and fine dining. Our hospitals, including Sarasota Memorial, are considered to be among the best in the country.
Just over the Ringling Causeway brings you to St. Armand’s circle, one of the finest shopping destinations around. While there you can also explore the famous Mote Marine Aquarium or journey on to Lido Key or Longboat Key. On the mainland, explore interesting neighborhoods, like South Gate, and Gulf Gate. “West of the Trail” communities, such as McClellan Park and Cherokee Park, offer original Spanish style homes from the 1920s.
Siesta Key, world-famous for its soft, white quartz sand and turquoise water. Enjoy a stroll through festive Siesta Village, dine on some of the best seafood available, and take in a glorious sunset by the shimmering Gulf of Mexico.
To the south is the small village of Osprey, home to Pine View school, and the prestigious Oaks golf course and country club. A number of fine communities have emerged for people wanting to live in close proximity to Pine View. Osprey is also home to historic Spanish Point. Continuing south you will find Nokomis, which is also home to Casey Key, a barrier island with many famous residents, including author Stephen King. Many newer communities have sprouted east of I-75 in Nokomis, due to its close proximity to Sarasota, and as home to some of the largest local employers, such as PGT windows and Tervis Tumbler.
Venice is a top retirement and tourist destination and offers a slower, more casual pace than Sarasota. Everyone loves the Island of Venice, with her historic Main Street for boutique shopping, unique dining, and easy access to Venice Beach, home of the annual Shark Tooth festival. Many visitors can be seen with Venice “snow shovels” as they comb through the sand looking for fossilized sharks’ teeth. Venice is also now home to the Chalk Art Festival, which attracts artists from around the world. Other events include annual Greek, Italian, and Jewish food festivals, and there’s a popular weekly farmer’s market. Golfing opportunities abound in Venice, and there are many new home communities to choose from. Older established neighborhoods include South Venice, with an eclectic mix of housing, and for a small annual fee, ferry access to a private beach, as well as a community boat launch.
In southeast Sarasota County, you will find the booming city of North Port. A sleepy bedroom community twenty years ago, North Port has exploded in population and now is the largest city between Tampa and Naples. Homes here are generally less expensive than elsewhere in Sarasota County. North Port is also the spring training home for the Atlanta Braves.
Lakewood Ranch, which is located east of I-75, is partially in Sarasota County but mostly in Manatee County. Part of our service coverage area, Lakewood Ranch has many wonderful communities to explore. It boasts its own Main Street, hospital and is just across the highway from one of the largest (and newest) shopping malls in America, University Town Center. This area is also home to Nathan Benderson rowing park, which is host to rowing events now attracting thousands of athletes and visitors every year.
