Bird Key Yacht Club sits on the former site of the New Edzell Castle, a mansion built in 1914 by Thomas Worcester, a Cincinnati native who fell in love with the area after several trips to the area. He purchased Bird Key in 1906 and built the mansion for his wife. Circus mogul John Ringling purchased the home and the rest of Bird Key in 1922, and his sister lived in the home until 1950. In 1959 the mansion was replaced by the elegant new Bird Key Yacht Club, designed in the dynamic Colonial Bahamian architectural style. The club has subsequently undergone a number of renovations and upgrades, most recently in 2011; Bird Key Yacht Club is always seeking ways to improve the club and the services it offers.

Bird Key Yacht Club offers superlative waterfront dining, several dining rooms, a full menu of favorites — for both casual and formal dining — and spectacular, panoramic views of Sarasota Bay and the Sarasota skyline. The club also features 3 Har-Tru tennis courts, a comprehensive fitness center, an Olympic-sized heated pool and deck, 3 meeting rooms, and a reciprocal agreement with the nearby Laurel Oak Country Club which gives members access to the 2 world-class, 18-hole golf courses there.
