Sarasota is well known for its beautiful beaches, arts, and culture. But just east of the interstate lies another world; active equestrian communities with expansive green pastures. Although equestrian properties abound throughout Sarasota County, most are concentrated east of I-75, heading toward Arcadia. Arcadia is home to the Arcadia Rodeo and its new $9,000,000 rodeo arena. Once you get “out east”, your options for horse farms and ranches are more diverse, both in style and price range. Sarasota equestrian communities generally offer parcels from one acre lots to ten acre lots, however, many have five to ten acre lots as a minimum to build. The amenities are varied, from bridle paths to riding clubs to polo fields. Horse lovers can even choose to live in Sarasota’s fly-in equestrian community, complete with its own airfield. Homes range from modest cabins to elegant mansions. Although these communities are reminiscent of old-Florida ranching days, you’re not far from beautiful beaches and downtown Sarasota. In southern Sarasota County, you will find equestrian communities such as Mission Valley Estates in Nokomis and Myakka River Trails in Venice.
