Southpointe Shores
SOUTHPOINTE SHORES
The Florida lifestyle doesn’t get much better when you’re living in Southpointe Shores. This neighborhood is a slice of waterfront heaven located across from the southern tip of Siesta Key and just “west of the trail” on the mainland in Sarasota, Florida.
Southpointe Shores is truly a boater’s delight. With over 112 estates, residents share the coveted canals leading directly into the deep, navigable waters of the Intracoastal, also known as Little Sarasota Bay. Boaters are welcome to use the community boat ramp and dock reserved for Southpointe homeowners. If you’re a seasonal resident or need somewhere to store your boat, a neighborhood marina is also available.
The community is broken up into two separate sections, each with its own direct access to Tamiami Trail. Sandalwood Drive, Peninsular Drive, and Cove Terrace intertwine together to make a three-fingered glove with each “finger” jutting out into the Intracoastal. Beautiful and luxurious multi-million dollar Mediterranean style homes line the bayfront, while most inland homes are more modest two- and three-bedroom homes.
The smaller of the two sections, Southpointe Drive, make up the rest of the neighborhood. The entrance includes a sign to remind residents that they are entering a bird sanctuary. Another sign cautions drivers to drive slowly because there may be children at play, evidence that this is a family-friendly place to live.
As an older community built in the 1960s and 1970s, the streets are decorated with mature palm trees and fully grown oak trees draped with Spanish moss. Southpointe Shores’ homeowners’ association fee of $150 a year is optional, but you’d never know it from the meticulously groomed landscape.
As this community is nestled away behind a strip mall and a Volvo dealership, this may be Sarasota’s best-kept secret. If you don’t know it’s there, you’d probably never find it. In fact, people probably rush by it every day without even knowing it.
Despite its proximity to Tamiami Trail, this neighborhood stays pretty quiet. Its convenient location and secluded atmosphere contribute to its many desirable properties. With easy access to SR 41, residents are just 5 minutes from the Westfield Sarasota Square Mall and other local shops and restaurants. Downtown Sarasota is 15 minutes down the road and a quick 10-minute drive will take residents to Siesta Key beach. For the active family, the Legacy Bike Trail and the Sarasota Family YMCA is just down the road, as is one of the top golf courses in the area located in Palmer Ranch.
The neighborhood features a community park for children that is open from 7 am until 11 pm. School-aged residents also have access to the neighborhood’s assigned public schools, including the highly-rated Riverview High School, Brookside Middle School, and Gulf Gate Elementary School.
