This years annual Downtown Sarasota Christmas parade will take place Saturday, December 1st, 2012. Sarasota Holiday Parade started in 1995 and has become one of the largest and best known holiday parades along the Sun Coast.
The annual Sarasota Downtown Christmas parade takes place this evening, December 4, at 7pm, 2011. This is one of Sarasota’s most popular family events.
Over 100 floats and community participants will march down Main Street, which is always jam packed with residents and visitors. This year’s theme is Sarasota’s Circus Heritage, and spectators will be wowed by the actual procession of elephants right down our main thoroughfare.
I have often mentioned that although a sophisticated city, Sarasota has maintained it small town charm. This is one of those annual events that evokes a feeling of community and reminds me of growing up in any small town USA. Come on out to the Sarasota Downtown Parade, but bring a jacket and get there early. Parking begins to get scarce about an hour before the event. Street vendors and restaurants will have plenty to eat and drink, and the atmosphere, even when waiting, is festive.
