Sarasota Wins Clean Air Award
If you’re considering the purchase of a luxury home for sale in Sarasota or adjacent communities, you may want to know that Sarasota is once again being recognized by national media, and this time it’s for something important to us all: air quality. According to a study of 100 cities and metro areas released in Autumn 2012 by the Honeywell Corporation, south Florida is the nation’s clean air capital, grabbing the top 3 spots. Honeywell’s “AirGenius Awards” went to the 25 metropolitan areas with the highest air quality. The Sarasota-Bradenton area came in 3rd in the nation and was the largest of the top three markets.
A Wall Street Journal story on the awards reported, “Data on pollen counts, particulate matter and ozone concentrations, public smoking laws, and ‘green’ city rankings for the 100 most populated U.S. cities were used in this assessment.” The Journal concluded, “The results are relevant to city dwellers and homeowners, particularly the elderly, young children, and individuals with allergies or asthma.”
Sarasota’s great climate, of course, is no secret to its residents. The average year-round temperature is 73 degrees, and there’s almost always plenty of sunshine. That makes Sarasota southwest Florida’s recreational capital; golf, boating, fishing, tennis, and all your favorite outdoor recreations can be enjoyed nearly 365 days a year. The area hosts a number of boating communities, equestrian communities, and golf and tennis communities. Luxury condominiums and luxury homes for sale are available in almost every neighborhood. Sarasota’s setting on the Gulf means plenty of gentle breezes to cool even the warmest Florida summer afternoons.
Sarasota of course, is southwest Florida’s booming center of arts and commerce, home of the prestigious Ringling Museum of Art, Van Wezel Hall, and the Historic Asolo Theater. Two international airports are only a brief drive from the city.
Money magazine has named Sarasota “America’s Best Small City,” and Sarasota’s Siesta Beach was recognized in 2011 as “America’s Number One Beach.” Sarasota is one of America’s “Top Ten Moving Destinations” according to a recent survey by Penske Truck Rentals. The city is also America’s top retirement destination, according to a study released earlier in 2012 by Top Retirement.
How does Sarasota get all the laurels? A top reason is perhaps the clean air and great climate, but another top reason is the beautiful barrier islands, featuring 35 miles of fabulous white-sand beaches, abundant shopping and dining choices and recreational options, and a graceful island lifestyle. The islands also offer a great selection of attractive single-family luxury homes for sale and attractive luxury condominiums. In fact, quite a range of desirable properties is available right now in and near Sarasota, both on the islands and on the mainland. Among these properties you’ll find magnificent new high-rise condos and penthouses, impressive waterfront mansions, and quiet, traditional family neighborhoods. Interest rates remain at historic lows, but prices are slowly beginning to climb, so it’s a good time to get serious if you’re purchasing a home in or near Sarasota.
The AirGenius Award makes it plain that Sarasota is the perfect home for anyone with health concerns or breathing issues. Sarasota is also the home of a number of award-winning hospitals and health-care facilities.
